If you are looking for the quintessential Maui dining experience, Mama’s Fish House is the gold standard. From the moment the valet greets you with a warm "Aloha," you realize this isn't just a meal—it’s a memory. Located on the secluded North Shore, the setting is breathtaking. The open-air dining room overlooks a private, palm-fringed cove (Kuʻau Bay). Whether you arrive for a lunch saturated in turquoise blues or a sunset dinner, the scenery is unparalleled. I recommend arriving 30 minutes early just to walk the grounds and take photos by the outrigger canoes. The level of detail here is incredible. The menu literally lists the name of the fisherman who caught your fish that morning. I only had a mai tail. The octopus and lobster bisque and all were extremely tasty, loved it. You'll need to book reservations well in advance but you may be lucky and score a bar seat around 2 or so like I did. The service is "Old Hawaii" at its finest: professional, intuitive, and genuinely warm. Despite how busy they are, the pacing never feels rushed. Both bartenders were great!!

This place absolutely lives up to its reputation. From the moment we sat down, the attention to detail was obvious. Our waiter was excellent. Warm, highly knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food and the history of the restaurant. He took the time to explain the menu, the fish, and where everything came from, which made the experience feel special rather than rushed. The space itself is beautiful and thoughtful, right down to the flowers and small historical touches woven throughout. It feels like a place with real soul, not just a restaurant with a view. The cocktails were fantastic, balanced and well made, and clearly taken just as seriously as the food. It is definitely an institution, but not in a tired or overrated way. It is one of those rare spots that fully earns the hype. Everyone is right to suggest it. If you are in Maui, this is a place you should make sure to experience.

We got off the plane and went here without a reservation on a Friday morning, I am so grateful they could accommodate us (we arrived at 10:45 and were seated at 11:30). We didn’t mind waiting because the view was beautiful! We The staff was so kind and knowledgeable. The bread with maui onion chicken broth is something to remember. All of the drinks were flavorful, the fish was fresh, and the dessert was amazing! The mahi-mahi curry is a staple there and was a highlight for me.

Words cannot express fully how this was one of the best dining experiences of my life. My wife and I felt so lucky to snag a lunch reservation for our Babymoon, and we were so grateful for Mama’s seating us at such an amazing table with an amazing view. We could see the waves crash, fun wildlife like lizards, and the beach in front of Mama’s had a beached turtle! There was a monk seal the day prior. The food and drinks were all intentional and cooked to perfection. I especially enjoyed the tropical cocktails on menu and the perfect dirty martini. Also, shout out to the octopus appetizer. It melts in your mouth when you eat it and isn’t rubbery at all. We loved our entrees. And the pearl dessert is a must! We were also grateful for the personal touches of a message on the table and the willingness of our server to answer our questions and to share about the history and architecture of the place. Everything here is purposeful and at the same time you might not even notice it since it is so effortless.

So I can’t ever recall a restaurant with greater attention to detail. We decided to eat here because we had just finished a long drive and it looked nice. What a lucky find. We pulled in and it’s valet parking only. The parking attendant told us the type of meals and costs and we said it was ok (we were on vacation). The hostess at the parking lot asked if we were celebrating anything, ( yes my birthday was near) and if we had any food allergies. I said yes and she recorded it. They said they could take us at the bar since we didn’t have a reservation- it was a perfect spot. We overlooked the beach and the amazing bartender. The drinks were very good and so was the food. The food concierge (I can’t call her a waitress, way too professional for that) made sure nothing I ordered went against my food allergy. Great attention to detail. If you want to splurge, this is the place. The black pearl dessert is so beautiful- see pictures. The bread and butter was delicious too.

An excellent, once in a lifetime experience. We arrived around 10:45 and were seated in a perfect booth right after opening, which felt like a special bonus for our anniversary. The service was top tier, with thoughtful and helpful recommendations. The mocktails were the best we have ever had. The food was fresh and enjoyable overall; the only dish that did not quite meet our expectations was the main course fish. That said, it is absolutely worth trying. The beach view is stunning and perfect for taking beautiful photos.

The ambience is perfect with the most gorgeous view. For food, the guest favorites crusted Kanpachi and fish curry are the favorites for a reason - they are both must haves! For appetizers the fish collars were so unique and delicious, the ahi cru was so incredible and fresh. For dessert the banana nut crisp is wonderful. The black pearl is stunning and delicious. Great mocktails and cocktails as well. Mama’s Fish House is the kind of restaurant that epitomizes hospitality and welcome. We had a major issue during our meal (nothing related to the food) and Hana and the rest of the team absolutely bent over backwards to make our experience right. Truly they did everything in their power to fix the situation and make sure we had an amazing experience. I truly can’t describe how special and cared for they made us feel. Even if something goes wrong, Mama’s will absolutely make it right. Absolute fantastic experience not to be missed, please go!

Mama’s is on everyone’s list for Maui, but you have to book months in advance. The servers are attentive and friendly. the food itself is really tasty, we had the curry dish, and the stuffed fish, both excellent, but for $80 per dish…it’s a bit ridiculous. The drinks are fun and well made, but again >$20 per drink is even steep for someone who frequents the bay area. overall, it’s worth it to go only once for me. the ambiance is lovely, especially on a nice day. for 2 people, be prepared to spend >$200
